It's not about leaf blowers, people.
Notes on pushing back against the 'highly-credentialed' Marxists who want to run our lives..........Because there is no way it will end, until we all screw-on a backbone and call them out.
A wake-up call to the Town Council November 2023:
I’m here tonight to express my opposition to several of the premises underlying the two proposals in front of this council this evening- the mandate that all new public buildings be built to be “all electric”, and a ban of the use of any off-street motors in the town (ie: non-battery powered string-trimmers, lawn mowers.) due to their asserted noisiness, and harms to health and the environment.
First and possibly the most troubling is that certain members of this community are of the mind, based on last month’s report to the council, that they have a right to restrict their neighbors’ rights because they’ve decided NOT to commute into the office on a given day. They feel entitled, apparently, in these circumstances, to demand that everyone around them stay super-quiet so as not to interrupt their Zoom meetings.
(This might be a good time to mention that there are meeting rooms available to reserve in the super quiet library, should some urgency arise for a meeting outside the office.)
The presumptuousness that underlies this demand of action from the Town Council is an embarrassing reflection on the entitled assumptions of some residents in this town. It’s as if the Town Council is being asked to step into the role of HR, in maintaining proper office decorum for these folks, so they can have their workday in the comfort of their own homes- neighbors be damned.
What will the demand be next once lawn equipment is banned? No doorbell ringing during business hours? No deck repairs or roof shingling? No little girls screaming in swimming pools during business hours? The precedent that would be set by capitulating to this RIDICULOUS request would reverberate endlessly.
As when dealing with toddlers, swift and firm reaffirmation of proper authority and BOUNDARIES is required here. This bold act of aggression against civil respect for the autonomy of others, needs to be nipped in the bud, for the well-being of all residents of this town of free people. I request that the proposal NOT be sent to committee, it should be dead on arrival.
Secondly, I also reject, and have bitten my tongue for too long on, the premises often implied in this chamber that, 1. There is any kind of climate emergency. and 2. That the natural and historically consistent shift in the climate of the last 50 years, is due to the likes of ‘off-street engines’, or even ANY suburbanite HUMAN BEHAVIOR.
For any paper that my zealous town-mates offer you, that says there is a climate emergency and that it is due to human activity, I can show you one that says that those assertion have categorically never been scientifically shown to be the case. That “The Science” can be politically manipulated should be no surprise to anyone who has lived through the last 3plus years. If this notion is news to you, than you are living in an information bubble- one that puts global power and control over all human interests.
It’s time for all of us to demand of our neighbors, that they dust off their discernment, and begin seeing the forest for the trees. We need a plurality to start pushing back on attempts at fear-mongering and policy manipulation based on the false grounds of the climate activists and their academic priests. If you are unwilling to shake off the unwarranted guilt attacks for your own good, do it for the children who are growing up with the false belief that the very provision of their daily needs- of warmth and transportation and electricity- is destroying to the planet. It is a very corrosive and emotionally abusive message being delivered daily to our kids, and it is all based on scientifically propaganda.
For how many years did they scream “global warming”? And when the temperatures didn’t agree, they switched to “Climate Change”. When the truth is that in all of the earth’s history climate has changed and shifted, long before we had string trimmers and leaf blowers, and flew in airplanes.
I would like to propose that if any ordinance changes are proposed, or tax dollars spent on “resiliency”, or on the unfathomably ridiculous notion of “climate mitigation” (as if anything change that we effect in our small town would be capable of “shifting climate”), I would submit that such ‘TOWN SPECIFIC PROBLEM’ must be fully recorded and documented, and compared to historic town records, before this issue can be addressed using tax-payer money . I am sure that I am not alone in my fatigue with the talk of imaginary increased-flooding and imaginary water level rises. I believe that this phantom climate-emergency is being used to syphon tax-payer funds into special interest coffers, and it needs to just stop. The citizens of this town need to be bold in walking away from the “acceptable” narrative on this subject and start speaking the truth.
Bravo! Well written / articulated!
